Varsity: Central Valley 2, Beyer 1
The Lady Hawks had yesterday’s game circled on their calendars since their 2-1 defeat at Beyer on January 6th. Since that game, both teams have scorched through the other WAC league competition headed towards yesterday’s collision course with each other. The Hawks were able to reach deep and pull off the huge 2-1 win over the Beyer Patriots at River Bluff. The win locks these teams up in 1st place with identical 9-1 WAC records. With just 4 league game remaining, both teams will need to run the table to keep pace with the each other. If both teams win out, they will share the WAC title, but the Hawks currently have the upper hand in the seeding tie-breaker due to CV’s advantage in goal differential. Good luck to our Hawks as they look to clinch their 2nd straight WAC title.
Boys Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 3, Beyer 0
The Hawks are in must win mode for the remainder of the season and they kept their playoff hopes alive yesterday with a 3-0 win over the Beyer Patriots. CV is now 4-3-3 in WAC play which puts them in 5th place, but just 3 points behind 3rd place Johansen for the final automatic playoff qualifier spot. It will be a tight race to the finish as 6 teams are all still alive for 3 playoff spots. The Hawks will have to play their best down the stretch as they have a pivotal matchup coming up this Thursday when they host the Livingston Wolves (4th place) at River Bluff Park. With just 4 games remaining, CV is very much alive for a playoff push as they will face 4 teams fighting for those same spots. The Hawks also have a chance at an at-large playoff berth based on strength of schedule as CV sits #18 in DI and the top 15 get in the playoffs. A strong finish down the stretch would get CV in without finishing in the top 3 in league.
Girls Basketball
Varsity: Grace Davis 55, Central Valley 34
The Hawks had early control in this one as CV took a lead into the half, but the Spartans took over in the 2nd half to pull away for the win. The Hawks will look to get back in the win column on this Thursday when they host the Pacheco Panthers.
