Boys Wrestling
Varsity: Central Valley 36, Grace Davis 33
JV Boys: Central Valley 42, Grace Davis 37
After a heart-breaking 37-36 dual loss at Lathrop on Tuesday night, the Hawks found themselves with their backs against the wall in their pursuit of the WAC title. The Hawks fell to 4-1 in league duals after Tuesday’s loss which put them a match back from the 1st place Grace Davis Spartans. When it mattered most, the Hawks took control of the circle last night and pulled off a gritty 36-33 win over Grace Davis! The win catapulted the Hawks into a 3-way 1st place tie at 5-1 with Grace Davis and Johansen. The good news is that CV won both head-to-head duals with both Grace Davis and Johansen, so the Hawks are in the driver’s seat as they look to roll into the WAC finals on February 7th at the top of the leaderboard. There is one obstacle still in the way and it will be the Ceres Bulldogs in the Crosstown Showdown next Wednesday night at Ceres High. Good luck to our boys as they look to finish out the regular season on top of the WAC. The JV Boys also prevailed last night moving their WAC duals record to 6-0. The JV Hawks will also look to finish atop the standings as they travel to Ceres next Wednesday.
Girls Wrestling
Varsity: Central Valley 51, Grace Davis 30
The Lady Hawks continued their hot streak in league as they took down the Grace Davis Spartans by the score of 51-30 to up their league dual record to 5-1. The Livingston Wolves sit atop the WAC standings at 6-0, but CV is now in a deadlock with Ceres High in 2nd place at 5-1. This season the CIF SJS will have Girls Wresting Sections and the Hawks still have a shot a qualifying via an at-large bid. Livingston will most likely get the one automatic bid, but the Hawks must finish strong next Wednesday as they need to pad their resume for a possible at-large playoff bid.
Girls Basketball
Varsity: Central Valley 34, Ceres 33
JV: Central Valley defeats Ceres
Frosh: Ceres defeats Central Valley
It has been a challenging road the Lady Hawks this season as they have battled some injuries and had some tough finishes late in games. Through it all, CV has continued to practice hard and fight their way back into games. All of the hard work paid off last night as the Hawks put together their best all-around effort of the season and they saved it for the Crosstown Showdown. The Hawks were able to outlast the Ceres Bulldogs in a hard-fought 34-33 win! Congrats to our Varsity Girls Basketball team (picture attached) on an awesome win last night.
Girls Soccer
Varsity: Central Valley 3, Pacheco 0
The Lady Hawks Girls Soccer team continued their WAC dominance with another shoutout win last night. The Hawks are now 8-1 overall in the WAC and have allowed just 2 goals. The problem is that the 2 goals were both allowed in a 2-1 loss to Beyer a couple of weeks ago. With the Beyer Patriots sitting atop the WAC standings at 9-0 and the Hawks lurking closely behind in 2nd place at 8-1, the stage is set for another showdown. CV will host the Beyer Patriots next Tuesday at River Bluff Park in Ceres at 3pm in what will most likely be the WAC Championship. There are still 4 games remaining after the Beyer game, but this is CV’s chance to even things up at the top of the standings to give themselves a shot a defending their WAC title.
Boys Soccer
Varsity: Pacheco 1, Central Valley 0
In what has become a very competitive WAC Boys Soccer league this season, the Hawks dropped a tight one to the Pacheco Panthers by the score of 1-0. CV is still alive for a playoff spot as they are locked in a tight WAC race which has 6 teams all within reach of the post-season with just 5 games left to go. The Hawks are currently ranked #18 in DI and the 15 top ranked teams get a playoff berth. With a strong finish in the final 5 games, CV still has a chance to punch their ticket to the post-season. Good luck to the Hawks as they look to get hot down the stretch.
