Varsity: Central Valley 7, Livingston 6
JV: Central Valley 16, Livingston 0
The Hawks magical run over the past few weeks continued last night with a thrilling rain-drenched win that bumped the Hawks into 2nd place! The conditions made it extremely difficult last night as the rain poured down throughout the varsity contest. The Wolves would strike first as they scored just a few minutes before half, but the Hawks were able to deny the extra point attempt. The Hawks struggled all night to get any positive momentum on offense, but all it took was one strong burst from CV standout, Ayleen Apreza as she bolted across the drenched turf for a huge TD run! The Hawks would convert the extra point and cling to the 1 point lead. Livingston had several drives make their way to the goal to go area, but the CV defense stood tall and repeatedly denied the Wolves. As the game neared an end, Livingston had all the momentum and the ball inside the CV 10. The Wolves attempted a game-winner in the corner of the endzone, but who else but Ayleen Apreza shot out of nowhere to rip down the interception to ice the CV win. The was a huge win for the Hawks as a Ceres upset loss at Pacheco vaults CV into 2nd place with just 3 league games remaining. Lathrop remains in the top spot at 9-2 while the Hawks and Bulldogs remain right behind them at 8-3 (CV currently has tie-breaker over Ceres by beating them in first meeting). Things won’t get easier down the stretch as the Hawks will travel to Johansen this Wednesday to take a feisty Vikings team and then close things out with a game at top seeded Lathrop next Monday followed by the crosstown showdown with Ceres High next Wednesday.
