Boys Soccer

Varsity: Central Valley 4, Golden Valley 3

JV: Central Valley 4, Golden Valley 2

Last night, the Hawks won an absolute thriller against the 1st place Golden Valley Cougars.  In this much anticipated rematch, CV was looking for revenge after the Cougars took round one a few weeks ago by the score of 5-1.  The Hawks were ready this time around as CV went to work early and scored the first goal of the game in the 10th minute.  Golden Valley would then strike back twice with a couple of scores as halftime approached.  Right before the 1st half ended, the Hawks were able to knock in the equalizer to knot things up a 2.  Shortly after the half, the Hawks took control of the game with a stunning goal to go up 3-2 with about 20 minutes remaining.  CV was on the defensive to protect the lead as a penalty was called in the box, giving the Cougars a PK with just under 7 minutes remaining.  Golden Valley would score on the penalty kick to tie things up 3-3 late in the 2nd half.  With under 2 minutes remaining in the game, the Hawks would take the lead in dramatic fashion.  With dazzling speed and control, Diego Ochoa darted through the Cougar defense and rocketed a curving shot into the back of the net!  The Hawks bench sprinted down the sideline and launched themselves onto a victory pile near the corner flag.  With just 60 seconds remaining, the Hawks took the lead and would hold on for the thrilling 4-3 win of the Cougars.  The Hawks goals were scored by Alejandro García, Julio Larranaga, Diego Ochoa and Alexis Cervantes, assisted by Yahir Pérez, Tahte Yang, Omar Alvarez and Victor Macias.  CV is now 15-6-1 overall and 6-1 in the CCC, which is good enough for a 1st place tie with Golden Valley.  The JV Hawks also notched another victory putting their overall record at an impressive 17-0-3 overall.

Girls Soccer

Varsity: Golden Valley 4, Central Valley 1

The Lady Hawks came out flat in a road matchup with the Golden Valley Cougars and could not recover from a slow start.  CV won the first meeting 2-1, but this time the Cougars would take home the win.  The loss drops the Hawks into 3rd place in the CCC, but hope is not lost as the top 3 teams will qualify for the CIF SJS playoffs.  CV will look to get back on track tomorrow in a crucial matchup with the El Capitan Gauchos.  These teams are now tied for 3rd place so the winner will hold the inside track to the final playoff spot.
